The nut butter fan club is huge. The manufacturers are taking advantage of this fact and robbing the fans by charging them with unfairly high rates for a small jar of nut butter you find at the stores. Don’t let the high price tag fool you into believing that the jar is all 100% nuts because it’s definitely not! It will have a higher proportion of additives like preservatives and very little nuts.
Not many people know that you could make much tastier, healthier and cheaper nut butter at home using only one basic ingredients in best food processor easily. The food processor literally does everything for you! You just need to add the ingredients to it and get it running. I’ve listed here some of my favorite nut butters which I have tried making in the food processor and they turned out so well, I wanted to share them with you.
Peanut butter or the king of all nut butters is my favorite too! All you will need are some roasted peanuts, your food processor and merely 15 minutes of your time! Roast peanuts and let them cool a little while before putting them in the processing bowl fitted with the S blade. Turn on the machine and let the peanuts grind into a fine powder first and then process further until they form a smooth butter. The best thing about homemade peanut butter is that you can adjust the flavor precisely the way you like by adding a pinch of salt, honey, oil and/or anything else that you like.
Almond butter is another big hit and very healthy if prepared at home. You can use raw almonds in the recipe but most people like the taste of roasted almonds better and it’s also easier to work with roasted almonds since roasting them in the oven makes them warmer. Warm nuts release nut oils much quicker than cold nuts to turn it into a smooth paste. Many people prefer the natural flavor of the almonds but you can also add vanilla, honey, cinnamon etc.
Although it is a little less popular as compared to peanut butter and almond butter, cashew butter is unique in its taste, rich, creamy and has a naturally slightly sweet flavor so it won’t require any additional flavorings to make it sweeter. Purchase unsalted cashews and roast them in the oven for the best flavor but if you are short on time or just like the flavor of raw cashews, you can use those too. After the roasted cashews have processed well into smooth cashew butter, you can also add a pinch of sea salt and a bit of vanilla essence to the butter and process it some more for an even more enhanced flavor.
Although it is not technically nut butter, it is similar in taste and is also rich in nutrients. As sunflowers have less natural oil inside them as most nuts do, you will have to add a little bit of oil once the sunflower seeds have ground into a fine powder to turn them into a smooth butter. Make sure you add light tasting oil which does not dominate the flavor completely. Avocado oil works great for making sunflower seed oil. Towards the end of the processing cycle, you can also add a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors.
If you are considering buying a brand new food processor with this particular purpose (of making nut butter) in mind, you may want to invest in a good quality one which has a strong enough motor to handle a tough task such as this one. Since processing nuts until they form butter takes a good amount of time and energy, it’s not something a substandard, weak food processor can handle.
